Following proper safety practices helps ensure accurate readings, reliable performance, and safe operation of pressure measurement equipment. Review these important guidelines before installing or using test plugs and gauges.
For test plugs, be sure to specify the proper core material (EPDM or Nordel) for the fluid being measured.
Select a pressure that exceeds the pressure of the fluid being tested. A good rule of thumb is the pressure gauge should be rated at 125% (or more) of the line pressure. Pulsating pressure can decrease the accuracy of the gauge over time. Consider a liquid filled gauge for these applications.
Plugs should be installed on the top side of a pipe whenever possible. Plugs on the bottom side of a pipe may collect dirt or debris, which can prevent proper re-seal.
